You get to experience Towns and progress that you don't have to make all on your own. And if you wanna be a hunter or farmer, you might not wanna go around logging or mining all day - on a big server you don't have to, because someone else is already selling building materials (and someone are likely already interested in buying the dead animals you've hunted or the crops you've grown). Finding out what other people want and need and trying to produce something that's in demand and earn some money feels good. My friends and I played on our own server for a bit, but once we joined a big server we really got invested in in the game. Those are nice and friendly, often with a thriving community. Once you've messed around with the game (or right away, for that matter) I would recommend joining a beginner server. Basically, you're somewhat missing out on the core concepts: ECOlogy and ECOnomy. Also, pollution is not that big of a deal with very few players. In my experience, lower number of players makes the game feel more tedious. Each player specializing within different professions and trading and collaboration between players are huge parts of the game. Playable in single player, more fun with a few friends and most fun on a server with strangers. Have a article or website about Eco you want featured? Send us a mod mail with the included link!
